To spy on a Shopify competitor, pull their live ads from the public libraries: search their brand Page in the Meta Ad Library for Facebook and Instagram, their domain in Google's Ads Transparency Center for Search, Shopping and YouTube, and browse the TikTok Creative Center for their category. Read the offers, hooks and angles they keep running, weight the ads that have been live longest, and save the winners. You can see every creative for free, but no library reports their revenue, spend or conversion rate. Last updated July 2026.

Every Shopify store leaves a paid-marketing trail in public, whether the owner realizes it or not. The ads a competitor is running right now, and how long each has stayed live, tell you more about what is working in your niche than any revenue-estimate tool guessing at their numbers. This guide walks through where to look, what each source shows, and how to turn a rival's ad account into your own test list.

Can you see a Shopify competitor's ads?

Yes. Any store that advertises on Facebook, Instagram, Google or TikTok has its live creative published in that platform's public ad library, and those libraries are open to anyone with no account required. You can see the exact images and videos a competitor is running, the ad copy, the start date, and how many variations of a concept they are testing. What you cannot see is their spend, their sales, their conversion rate or their profit, because none of that is public for commercial ads. The creative is the honest part, and for a Shopify store the creative is usually where the whole game is won or lost.

Where to find a Shopify competitor's ads

There are three sources worth checking for any ecommerce rival, one per major paid channel:

  • Meta Ad Library. The richest source for most Shopify brands. Set the country to United States, choose "All ads," and search the competitor's Facebook Page. You will see every live Facebook and Instagram ad, including all the variations of a single concept they are running.
  • Google Ads Transparency Center. Search the competitor's domain, not their brand name, to see their Search, Shopping and YouTube ads. Shopping ads matter a lot for ecommerce, because they show the products a rival is actively pushing and the price points they lead with.
  • TikTok Creative Center. The Top Ads section lets you browse high-performing creatives by category and region. It is less precise per-brand than Meta, but it surfaces the UGC formats and hooks winning in your product category before they spread everywhere else.

Checking only one is the common mistake. A store that looks quiet on Facebook may be scaling hard on TikTok, and you would miss half its strategy. Run every serious rival through all three.

How to spy on Shopify competitors step by step

  1. Build your competitor list. Start with the obvious rivals, then add the scrappy upstarts. Search your product category by keyword in the Meta Ad Library to surface stores you had not thought of, which are often the ones testing the freshest angles.
  2. Pull each store's Meta ads. Search the Page, then sort your read by the "started running" date. An ad live for three months is a proven winner; one launched yesterday is a test.
  3. Count the variations. If a competitor has fifteen versions of one video running, that concept is earning enough to justify the iteration. Variation count is a loud signal.
  4. Check Google Shopping. Search their domain in the Transparency Center and note which products and price points they lead with. Those are usually their proven margin winners.
  5. Read the offer, not just the creative. Free shipping threshold, bundle discount, first-order code, subscribe-and-save. The offer a store repeats across many ads is the one converting.
  6. Save the winners. Keep the hook, angle, format and offer for every long-runner in one place so you can brief your own creative from real patterns instead of guesses.

What signals actually matter for an ecommerce competitor?

The two most reliable free signals are run length and variation count, because both cost the competitor money to sustain. Brands kill losing ads fast to protect their return on ad spend, so an ad that has run for months has survived that competitor's own testing. A concept with many active variations is one they are pouring creative effort into. Neither is a vanity metric, and neither can be faked without real budget behind it. Everything else, likes and comments included, is noise by comparison.

Turn competitor research into your own tests

Spying is only worth the time if it changes what you make. Once you have a rival's long-runners in front of you, read the top of the list and ask what the repeated hook is, what promise the angle sells on, and which format carries it. Then build your own sharper version rather than copying the ad outright, which is both more effective and stays on the right side of copyright. For a full framework on reading a single creative, our guide on what makes a winning ad breaks down each element, and how to analyze competitor ads lays out how to turn a whole rival account into a test brief.

Paid ads are only one half of a Shopify store's growth, though. The stores that compound tend to pair the creative they find in these libraries with steady organic content that ranks for the same buying intent, and letting an AI blog writer that researches keywords and publishes SEO articles handle that side keeps a founder focused on the store while the top of the funnel fills itself. Study the ads to win the auction; publish the content to stop paying for every click.

The faster way to watch every rival

Doing all of this by hand for one store is manageable. Doing it weekly for ten is not, and the ads rotate faster than you can screenshot them. This is the gap AdEye closes: type a competitor's brand or your niche once and it pulls their live public ads from Meta, Google, TikTok and YouTube into one feed, tags each by hook, angle and format, and sorts by run length so the proven creatives rise to the top. It is built for exactly this job as an ecommerce ad spy tool, and for stores in the product-testing game the dropshipping ad spy tool view keeps the same feed focused on fast movers. Save the winners to a swipe file and get alerted the moment a tracked store launches or scales a new ad, so you are early instead of late.

The short version

Spy on Shopify competitors by searching each one in the Meta Ad Library, Google Ads Transparency Center and TikTok Creative Center, reading the offers and hooks they keep running, and weighting the long-runners and heavily-varied concepts. You can see all the creative for free but never their spend or sales. Save the winners, model them into your own sharper tests, and use a tool that watches every rival across all four platforms at once if you are tracking more than a couple. To skip the manual hunt, type a competitor into the AdEye demo and watch their live ads stream into one tagged feed.
