Google Ads spy tool: AdWords spy tool for competitor ads
Google publishes every verified advertiser's live ads in the Ads Transparency Center, which sounds like it should settle competitive research on Google forever. In practice it settles very little. You get one advertiser at a time, a date filter Google will not put a guarantee behind, and no way to tag, sort, save or track anything you find.
The gap that hurts most is time. Google never publishes a retention window for the Transparency Center. Its own help pages say only that you can see the ads an advertiser ran during a certain time period, and the advertiser page you reach from an ad disclosure covers the past 30 days. Next to Meta, the public record on Google is short and deliberately vague, so an ad a rival stopped running two months ago may simply be gone.
AdEye reads that same public Transparency Center data and keeps a running record of it. Every Search, Shopping, Display and YouTube ad carries a first-seen date and a run length, tagged by angle and format. This is the one library AdEye reads, and it is the whole product: search a brand or a domain, get that advertiser's live Google creative back sorted by what they have kept funding. Public data only, organized so you can act on it.

Why it works
What a Google ads spy tool should do
Every Google surface in one feed
Search, Shopping, Display and YouTube creative for all of your competitors in one searchable view, instead of one advertiser at a time in Google's own interface. Add a rival once and their Search, Shopping, Display and YouTube creative comes back together, which is the comparison Google's own interface makes you assemble by hand.
Run length, because Google will not tell you
Google publishes no retention window and no run-length view, so the free tool cannot answer the one question that matters: has this ad been live long enough to be working? AdEye keeps the first-seen date on every ad it returns, so saving them builds the history Google does not keep.
Angle and format tags you can filter
AI reads each Google and YouTube ad and tags the angle it uses, the format, and the offer structure. That turns a pile of screenshots into something you can query, such as every price-led Shopping ad in your category that has run more than 60 days.
What no Google ads spy tool can give you
This is the limit worth knowing before you pay for anything in this category. The Ads Transparency Center publishes the verified advertiser, the creative and the dates it ran. It does not publish the keywords behind an ad, the bid, the budget or the impression share, so no tool reading it can hand you those. Any product quoting a competitor's Google ad spend is modelling it from crawled search results, which is a legitimate technique and still an estimate. Google itself publishes real spend figures only for political and social-issue advertising. AdEye reports the published record and nothing beyond it, which is why run length, not spend, is the working signal here.
What this costs against the enterprise tier
Google competitive data splits into three price bands and they buy different things. Keyword and bid history is the cheap self-serve band, where SpyFu advertises from $29 a month. Creative research on the Transparency Center is the band AdEye sits in, at $39 a month or $19.50 billed yearly, with 500 searches, AI hook and angle tags and swipe boards. Above both is enterprise search intelligence: Adthena publishes $350 and $399 a month for its AI search products and quotes its paid search market views custom, positioned at brands spending $500k or more a year on Google Ads. If your account is not at that scale, the enterprise band prices you for a market picture much larger than your media plan.
Side by side
Google Ads Transparency Center compared with AdEye
Checked against Google's own advertising policy and Google Ads help documentation in August 2026. Where Google's free tool is the right answer, this table says so.
| What you are trying to do | Ads Transparency Center (free) | AdEye |
|---|---|---|
| Look up one advertiser's current Google ads | Yes, and it is authoritative. Use it | Yes, same public data, plus tags and history |
| Confirm an advertiser is verified and who they are | Yes, legal name and location with a verified badge | We surface Google's verification status, we do not replace it |
| Track several competitors at once | No, one advertiser per search | No, also one advertiser per search; saved ads collect on your boards |
| Know how long a Google ad has been running | No run-length view, and no published retention window | First-seen date, run length on every ad |
| See ads a competitor already stopped running | Unreliable. Google publishes no retention guarantee | Only ads you saved to a board stay after they stop |
| See Meta or TikTok ads in the same place | No, Google surfaces only | No. AdEye reads Google only, same as the free tool |
| Sort Google ads by run length | No, no sorting or run-length view | Yes, run length on every ad |
| See the keywords a competitor bids on | No, Google never publishes this | No, and no honest tool reads it from Google |
| See spend, budgets or conversions | No for ordinary commercial ads | No. Any tool showing these is modelling, not measuring |
| EEA targeting and reach disclosures | Yes, required under the Digital Services Act | Not a substitute for Google's DSA disclosures |
| Cost | Free | Starter 39 dollars a month, Pro 99, Agency 299 |
Google publishes creative, advertiser identity and serving regions. It has never published keywords, bids, budgets, spend or conversion data for ordinary commercial ads. Any product that puts a precise dollar figure on a competitor's Google spend is showing you an estimate from its own panel, not a number read from Google.

Why AdEye
One feed, the AI read, the working signal in view
Not a stale doc full of screenshots. One query for a brand, the run length on every creative, and a swipe file worth reopening. Public ad-library data only.
Every Google ad at once
The Google Ads Transparency Center searched by brand or domain, so competitor ad research is one query instead of clicking through Google's own viewer.
The AI reads the why
Creatives are tagged with their hook, angle and format on the paid plans, a few per search and kept once read, and a working signal flags the long-runners, so you see why an ad works, not just what it ran.
A swipe file that stays current
Save winners to boards, each keeping its run length and a link back to the original creative on Google, so the file is still useful months later.
