The TikTok Ads Library, officially the Commercial Content Library at library.tiktok.com, is TikTok's public database of paid ads. You can search it by advertiser name or keyword and filter by country, ad type and date, and it shows the creative, first and last shown dates, targeting and a reach range. The catch for US marketers is coverage: as of 2026 it only holds ads delivered in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, so it returns nothing for a US-only campaign. This guide covers what it shows, its limits, and how to research competitor TikTok ads from the States.

"TikTok ads library" gets close to 2,900 US searches a month, and most of the people typing it are surprised by what they find. They expect something like the Meta Ad Library, a searchable archive of every advertiser. What TikTok actually ships is narrower, region-locked, and easy to misread. Last updated July 2026.

What is the TikTok Ads Library?

The TikTok Ads Library is TikTok's Commercial Content Library, a public transparency database that lists paid ads running on the platform. TikTok built it to comply with digital transparency rules, primarily Europe's Digital Services Act, so it is designed for public accountability rather than for competitor research. You can open it at library.tiktok.com without a TikTok account and search by advertiser or keyword.

People use "TikTok Ads Library" to mean two different tools, and mixing them up wastes a lot of time. One is the Commercial Content Library described here, which is brand-searchable but region-limited. The other is the TikTok Creative Center, a free hub of top-performing ads by category that you cannot search by brand at all. This guide is about the Commercial Content Library; if you want the category-level view, our TikTok Creative Center guide covers that tool and what it will and will not let you search.

What does the TikTok Ads Library show you?

For each ad, the Commercial Content Library shows the creative itself, the advertiser name, the first and last shown dates, the targeting criteria used, and a reach range. It does not show ad spend, click-through rate, conversions or any performance metric. Ads stay in the archive for one year after they last ran.

Here is the practical breakdown of what you get and what you do not.

How do you search the TikTok Ads Library?

Go to library.tiktok.com, enter an advertiser name or keyword in the search bar, then filter by country, ad type and date range to narrow the results. You do not need to log in. Open individual ads to see the creative, the shown dates and the targeting. Because the interface is built for transparency reporting rather than marketing, expect a plainer experience than a dedicated research tool.

A useful habit is to sort your mental read by the shown dates. An ad whose first-shown date is months back and whose last-shown date is recent has been running a long time, and in advertising a long run is the clearest free signal that something is working. Ads that appeared and disappeared within a week were almost certainly tests that did not make the cut.

Why can't I find US ads in the TikTok Ads Library?

Because the Commercial Content Library only covers ads delivered to users in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland. The archive exists to satisfy European transparency law, and TikTok has not extended it to the United States, so a search for a US brand's US campaigns comes back empty. This is the single biggest reason US marketers walk away frustrated.

It is worth being blunt about what that means for a US buyer. If your competitors run TikTok ads aimed at American audiences, the official TikTok Ads Library will not show them. You are not searching wrong; the data simply is not in there. That gap is exactly why US teams reach for either the Creative Center or a dedicated research tool that indexes TikTok ads regardless of the delivery region.

TikTok Ads Library vs Creative Center vs a research tool

The three tools answer three different questions. The Commercial Content Library answers "what has this named advertiser run in Europe." The Creative Center answers "what is winning in my category right now." A dedicated research feed answers "what is this specific competitor running, across platforms, and which of their ads are proven." For a US media buyer, the last question is usually the one that matters, and it is the one the official library cannot answer.

If your job is to see a named competitor's live TikTok ads with US audiences included, that is the exact gap a TikTok ad spy tool fills: you type the brand and get their running creatives, not an empty European archive. AdEye also indexes the TikTok ads library alongside Meta, Google and YouTube in one feed, so you research a competitor across every platform in a single search instead of hopping between four transparency sites.

How to research competitor TikTok ads from the US

Combine the free tools with brand-level research, in order. Start in the Creative Center to learn the category patterns: which hooks, formats and sounds are performing in your niche this month. That gives you the shape of a winning TikTok ad without naming anyone, and it covers US activity. Then move to brand-level research to see which specific competitors are executing those patterns and which of their ads have run long enough to be proven.

The read that matters is run length. No TikTok tool, official or third-party, publishes real spend, so you cannot see budgets. What you can see is how long a creative has stayed live and how many variations of it are running. An ad a competitor has kept up for two months, with several variations, is one they are funding because it works. That is the honest proxy, and it is more actionable than any guessed spend number. The same signal drives the wider job of competitor ad research on every platform, not just TikTok.

Turning TikTok ad research into your own creative

Research is only worth the time if it changes what you produce. Once you have spotted a hook and format that keeps winning in your category, the next move is to build your own version, not to reupload someone else's asset, which is both a copyright problem and a weak strategy. Many teams take a proven angle and quickly turn it into their own UGC-style video, then test it against their control. The research tells you the angle; the production is where your product and voice go on it.

The short version

The TikTok Ads Library is real, free and brand-searchable, but it is the Commercial Content Library and it only holds European, UK and Swiss ads, so US campaigns are absent. For US competitor research, use the Creative Center for category patterns and a brand-searchable ad library search for named competitors, and read run length as your working signal. Then build your own creative from what the pattern teaches you.
