The Semrush Advertising Toolkit, which is Semrush's PPC tool, costs $99 a month on the Base plan and $220 a month on the Pro plan. Unlike Semrush's SEO plans, the price is the same whether you pay monthly or annually, and Semrush's knowledge base lists a free trial of 7 days on both plans. Base covers Google Search and Shopping ad research plus campaign tools. Pro adds AdClarity, capped at one channel, one country and 3 months of history. We checked both billing toggles on semrush.com and the plan table in Semrush's knowledge base.
That last detail is the one most roundups skip, and it decides whether Pro is worth the extra $121. If you are buying the toolkit mainly to see what competitors run on Google, you also need to know which Google formats it actually shows you. Below: the verified plan table, the real annual cost for a small team, what each tier returns about competitor ads, and where a cheaper tool does the same job.
How much does the Semrush PPC tool cost?
Semrush sells its PPC tools as a separate product line called the Advertising Toolkit, priced apart from the SEO and AI Search plans. There are two tiers and one add-on that matters for teams.
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed annually | Competitor ads | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Advertising Base | $99 / mo | $99 / mo ($1,188 a year) | Google Search text ads and Shopping listings | Advertising Research, PLA Research, Ads Launch Assistant, Ads AI Agent, unified Google and Meta dashboard |
| Advertising Pro | $220 / mo | $220 / mo ($2,640 a year) | Adds display, social or video ads through AdClarity, one channel | Everything in Base plus AdClarity and competitor landing page views |
| Additional user | $20 / mo each | $20 / mo each | Same as the plan | An individual login on the same account |
| Enterprise | Custom quote | Custom limits | SSO, custom integrations and API, dedicated account manager | |
The absence of an annual discount is unusual. On the SEO line, paying annually takes roughly 16 percent off, as our Semrush pricing guide sets out plan by plan. On the Advertising line, the annual toggle shows $99 and $220 with "billed annually" underneath, and the monthly toggle shows the same two figures with a "Try for free" button. So there is no financial reason to commit for a year up front. Start monthly, use the trial, and decide after one billing cycle.
Does the Semrush Advertising Toolkit have a free trial?
Yes. Semrush's knowledge base lists a free trial of 7 days on both Advertising plans, and the pricing page shows "Try for free" only when the monthly toggle is selected. Semrush's own advice is to start the trial on Pro so you can test AdClarity, then drop to Base if you do not need it. That is sensible, because a week is enough to see whether AdClarity covers your competitors in your one chosen channel.
Plan the week before you start it. Pick three competitors, one country, and the question you actually need answered, such as "what search copy is our largest rival testing this month" or "which display creatives has this brand run since June". Seven days of casual clicking tells you very little. Seven days aimed at one decision tells you whether the $220 is justified. If you are comparing trials across vendors, our ad spy tool free trial comparison lists which tools offer one and which offer a refund window instead.
What is included in the Semrush Advertising Toolkit?
Five tools, split between researching competitors and running your own campaigns. The research half is what most buyers are paying for.
| Tool | Base | Pro | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advertising Research | Yes | Yes | A domain's paid Google Search keywords, positions, position changes, competitors, ad copies, Ads History, landing pages and subdomains |
| PLA Research | Yes | Yes | Google Shopping positions, competitors and product listing copy |
| Ads Launch Assistant | Yes | Yes | Builds and launches your own Google and Meta campaigns. 100 AI-written Google ad copies and 100 Meta ad copies a month, unlimited ad spend managed |
| Ads AI Agent | Yes | Yes | Optimization recommendations on your running campaigns |
| AdClarity | No | Yes, limited | Display, social or video ad intelligence: creatives, placements and modelled spend |
Advertising Research is the core of the toolkit. Semrush's knowledge base says its paid keyword history goes back to 2012, and the Ads History report shows a rolling 12 month grid of which keywords a domain bid on and the ad it showed for each. That is useful for seeing when a competitor started pushing a product line or a seasonal offer.
Semrush AdClarity limits on Advertising Pro
Semrush AdClarity is included only in Advertising Pro at $220 a month, and the bundled version is capped at one channel, one geo location and three months of history. Base at $99 has no AdClarity at all. Pro exists to add AdClarity, the display, social and video ad intelligence product Semrush owns. The catch is in the limits. Semrush's knowledge base lists them for the bundled version: 1 geo location, 3 months of historical data, up to 50 reports, 1 channel (display, social or video, you choose one), 5 campaign results, up to 100 ad search results and up to 5 exports.
Those are the same limits as AdClarity's own Basic plan, which costs $129 a month when bought directly. So the fair way to read the price gap is this: Pro costs $121 more than Base, and for that you get AdClarity Basic, worth $129 on its own, plus competitor landing page views. If you need three channels or 6 to 12 months of display history, the bundle cannot do it, and you would be looking at AdClarity's $289 or $349 plans instead. Our AdClarity pricing breakdown compares those tiers in detail.
Can Semrush see competitors' Facebook, YouTube and Display ads?
Only partly, and only on Pro. Base researches Google Search and Google Shopping. The Meta side of Base is for managing your own Meta campaigns, not for viewing a rival's Facebook or Instagram ads. On Pro, AdClarity can show social, display or video ads, but you pick one of those channels, in one country, with 3 months of history.
For Google specifically, there is a real gap. Semrush's Search ad copies come from crawling results pages for the keywords in its database, so an ad shows up if Semrush happened to crawl the right query in the right place. YouTube and Google Display creative is not part of Advertising Research at all. Google itself publishes every ad it serves across Search, Display, Shopping and YouTube in the Ads Transparency Center, and that record is the authoritative one. If what you need is the complete set of ads a competitor is running on Google right now, including video and display, a tool that reads the Transparency Center directly, like our Google Ads competitor analysis tool, answers that without modelling.
Is Semrush good for PPC?
It is good for PPC keyword research and for a first read of a competitor's paid search strategy, and, unusually for a competitor research tool, it also launches and manages your own campaigns in the same subscription. Where it is weaker is completeness: spend and keyword figures are estimates, and ad coverage depends on what its crawler saw.
Every third-party figure about a competitor's Google Ads account is modelled, whichever vendor sells it. Nobody outside Google reads another advertiser's account. Semrush infers keywords and costs from the results pages it crawls, so brand campaigns, narrowly geo-targeted campaigns and most Performance Max activity tend to be under-counted. That does not make the data useless. It means you should treat the keyword list as a strong lead and the spend figure as a rough range, and not present either one to a client as fact.
Semrush Advertising Toolkit vs other PPC competitor tools
| Tool | Entry price | Google Search ads | Google Display, YouTube | Keyword and spend data | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semrush Advertising Base | $99 / mo | Yes, crawled | No | Yes, modelled, since 2012 | Keyword research plus running your own campaigns |
| Semrush Advertising Pro | $220 / mo | Yes, crawled | One AdClarity channel, 3 months | Yes, modelled | Teams that want one extra ad channel in the same account |
| SpyFu | $39 / mo, or $29 billed annually | Yes, crawled | No | Yes, modelled, long ad copy history | Cheap Google PPC keyword and ad copy history |
| AdClarity direct | $129 / mo | No | One channel on Basic, three on higher tiers | Modelled spend | Display and video intelligence in one market |
| AdEye | $60 / mo, or $30 billed annually | Yes, from Google's own record | Yes, Display, Shopping and YouTube | No, observed creative only | Seeing every live Google ad a competitor runs, in all formats |
Semrush wins clearly on keyword data, CPC estimates and campaign management. AdEye does not estimate keywords or spend, and it will not build campaigns for you. What it does is read Google's own ad record across Search, Display, Shopping and YouTube, which covers the formats the Semrush crawl misses. The two are complements rather than substitutes: Semrush for keyword planning, and a Transparency Center tool for creative. If SpyFu is also on your list, our SpyFu pricing guide has its current tiers.
What does the Semrush Advertising Toolkit cost for a team?
Every plan price buys one login. Extra users are $20 a month each on the Advertising line, which is cheaper than the $45-plus seat price on the SEO line. Here is what three common setups cost over a year.
| Setup | Monthly | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| Solo PPC manager on Base | $99 | $1,188 |
| Three-person team on Base | $99 + 2 x $20 = $139 | $1,668 |
| Three-person team on Pro | $220 + 2 x $20 = $260 | $3,120 |
| Three-person team on Pro plus white-label Pro Report | $260 + $20 = $280 | $3,360 |
One thing the Advertising Toolkit does not include is Semrush's SEO data. Organic keyword research, site audits and rank tracking sit in the SEO and AI Search line, which starts at $139 a month. Agencies that need both often end up paying for two Semrush lines. If organic is a smaller part of your work, a lighter AI SEO tool that audits and rewrites your pages can cover that side for less than a second Semrush subscription.
Should you buy Semrush Advertising Base or Pro?
Buy Base at $99 if your competitive questions are about Google Search and Shopping: which keywords a rival bids on, what their text ads say, how their Shopping listings rank, and you want Semrush to help build and optimize your own Google and Meta campaigns.
Buy Pro at $220 only if one extra channel, display or social or video, in one country, with 3 months of history, answers a question you have every month. If you need more channels or more history, buy AdClarity directly instead. If the real need is seeing every ad a competitor runs on Google, including YouTube and Display, neither tier covers it fully, and a PPC competitor analysis tool built on Google's own ad record costs less than the difference between Base and Pro.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Semrush Advertising Toolkit included in Semrush One or the SEO plans?
No. Semrush prices each toolkit separately, and the Advertising Toolkit is its own subscription at $99 or $220 a month. The SEO and AI Search plans, from $139 to $549 a month, do not describe any advertising or paid search features in their plan listings. Check which line you are buying before you pay.
Can I cancel the Semrush Advertising Toolkit anytime?
Yes. Semrush's pricing FAQ says you can cancel, downgrade or upgrade at any time unless you have signed custom terms. Because the monthly and annual prices are identical on this line, monthly billing costs you nothing extra and keeps you free to leave after any month.
Does the Semrush Advertising Toolkit include API access?
Not on the published plans. API access at Semrush is tied to the SEO line's Advanced tier and to Enterprise, and it is billed in separate API units. The full unit math is in our Semrush API pricing guide.
How far back does Semrush Advertising Research go?
Semrush states its paid keyword history reaches back to 2012 for Advertising Toolkit subscribers. The Ads History report itself always displays the previous 12 months, month by month. AdClarity inside Pro is limited to 3 months.
